R&I Comprehensive Training Workshop

On the 24th of October 2024, the COST Academy hosted a comprehensive training workshop at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Brussels, focusing on the integration of Gender equality in Research and Innovation (R&I), to which Dr Slavka Silberg from our CA22120 LeverAge was also invited.

This initiative aimed to address the ongoing importance of gender equality in R&I by equipping COST Actions with targeted strategies and techniques taught by respected gender equality experts, including the leaders of the CA19122 European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics (EUGAIN). Participants received evidence-based insights into tackling gender inequality, facilitated peer-to-peer learning sessions and, in addition, representatives from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and the Gender Sector in DG Research & Innovation provided valuable insights into institutional support for gender equality.

Participants also heard from members of COST Actions who have effectively implemented gender equality initiatives and shared practical examples and success stories. The interactive format encouraged dialogue between participants, especially during the group sessions, and fostered a collaborative learning environment. The workshop also provided insights from 35 COST Action participants and fostered an interactive environment and networking where participants worked together in break-out groups to draft tailored Gender Equality Plans for their respective Actions.
